Shepherd’s Pie

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 190C. Peel and dice the onion and carrots.
  2. Heat the oil in a pan and fry the onion and carrots until softened.
  3. Add the minced beef or chicken and brown, then stir in the tomato puree and Worcestershire sauce.
  4. Pour in the stock, season with salt and pepper, and simmer until thickened. Transfer to an oven dish.
  5. Boil the potatoes until tender, then mash with the butter and milk and season.
  6. Spread the mash over the meat and rough up the surface with a fork.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden on top.
